Three Takeaways from the DAF Giving Summit
Learnings from four days with the nation's top DAF leaders.
Three Takeaways from the DAF Giving Summit
At this year’s DAF Giving Summit in Austin, one message came through clearly: donor-advised funds cannot rely on a passive, back-office experience if they are going to meet donors’ expectations and their charitable goals.
Across conversations with community foundations, national sponsors, and philanthropic advisors, three themes stood out across the sessions and conversations.
1. Better technology is now table stakes
From small community sponsors to the nation’s leading providers, there’s growing recognition that donors expect a simple, secure experience. They want to understand their accounts and recommend grants without a string of emails or a confusing portal.
Better workflows, diligence, and stronger account infrastructure matter for staff, too. Every routine task that becomes easier creates more time to support donors and help them put their generosity into action.
That’s what we’re building with Mission Control: a branded, dedicated home for donors to manage their DAFs, paired with the systems staff need to review grants, complete diligence, and manage workflows for growing donor-advised fund programs.
2. No one wants a DAF to be a parking lot
2. A DAF experience should invite action, not just transactions. The question is not simply whether donors can recommend grants, it’s how the experience gives them a reason to act.
That makes donor engagement an essential part of running a thriving DAF program. Helping someone discover an organization, understand a community need, or take the next step in their giving can be just as important as processing their recommendation.
A useful question that DAF leaders asked each other: does your donor experience give people a reason to come back and something meaningful to do when they arrive?
3. Donors want more possibilities and more visibility
Sponsors and philanthropic advisors are hearing from donors who want to explore different ways to use their DAFs, including mission-aligned investments and recoverable grants.
Alongside that creativity comes a desire for clarity. What options are available? How are decisions made? What is happening with the dollars they’ve committed?
The opportunity is to help donors understand those possibilities and stay connected to the work their giving supports.
These conversations reinforced what we’re building toward at Daffodil: an experience that makes giving easier for donors and administration easier for staff, with more visibility into the impact at the center.

Giving Smarter, Together: Circle Up Miami

Circle Up Miami on Sept 24 assembled foundations, giving circles, and other philanthropic leaders across Miami.
Daffodil was proud to sponsor the first-ever Circle Up Miami alongside Power for Good Consulting, Philanthropy Together, Grapevine, PhilanthropyMiami, and Radical Partners. The evening brought giving circle members and philanthropy leaders together to explore how we can give smarter, together.
Helping people give together also means making it easier to keep members involved between meetings. If your giving circle is looking for better ways to organize giving and stay connected to impact, we’d love to hear what you’re working on.
Smarter Giving Starts Here.
