Two Shifts for DAFs: Trump Accounts and AI Wealth

New ways to deploy DAF capital, and a new generation of philanthropists.

What’s New in Giving this Week

This week, we're watching two developments that could reshape philanthropy: new possibilities for donor-advised funds and a wave of charitable wealth emerging from AI.

DAFs find a New Frontier: Trump Accounts

National Philanthropic Trust and J.P. Morgan announced a new pathway for donor-advised funds to support contributions to Trump Accounts, tax-advantaged investment accounts for children. One early example: philanthropist Brad Gerstner's family DAF plans to contribute $250 to eligible children's accounts in Indiana.

This signals another expansion in how donors are thinking about using their DAF dollars. But new giving models also bring new operational challenges. DAF sponsors will need infrastructure that can support innovative programs, simplify administration, and help donors understand the impact of their giving. AI Really is Is Creating the Next Generation of Philanthropists

Anthropic reportedly recorded more than $660 million in stock-based charitable matching expenses over six months. It's an early indication of the philanthropic potential of wealth being created by AI. As tech founders and early employees turn equity into charitable capital - inspired by tax planning, future giving, or a bit of both - we can expect to see DAFs as the easiest vehicle for their giving.

We see the opportunity here isn’t only capturing new charitable dollars. That's the challenge we're building toward at Daffodil: making donor discovery, engagement, and impact the core part of the giving experience, rather than an afterthought.
